Citizens' Assembly for the Right to Housing in Lanzarote. Since 5 October 2026 we have been in Arrecife's Parque José Ramírez Cerdá, day and night, in a peaceful protest open to everyone.
See what is going onWe are neighbours from all over the island: teachers, health workers, lawyers, shopkeepers, artists, young people, pensioners and families who cannot find a home or are about to lose one. We are not a party and we depend on nobody: the Assembly is citizen-led, non-partisan, autonomous, horizontal, active and peaceful. Decisions are taken in open assembly and recorded in public minutes.
After a rally, a march and two assemblies, on 5 October 2026 we pitched our tents under one of César Manrique's pergolas in the Parque José Ramírez Cerdá, next to the bandstand and the Castillo de San Gabriel. It is not a leisure camp: it is a permanent peaceful gathering protected by article 21 of the Spanish Constitution, and it is also a place where anyone with a housing problem can come and be heard.
We ask for what should be normal: affordable rents, help for those threatened with eviction, decent alternatives for people in vulnerable situations, institutions that sit down and talk, and respect for the right to gather and protest. In the meantime, we organise.
